BO AND JO AND HANBO

In Kobudo there are basically three types of fighting stick:-
The BO which is approx. 6 feet long and just over 1 inch in diameter.
The JO which is approx. 4 feet 2 inches long and just under 1 inch in diameter.
The HANBO which is often included among the JO which is just under 3 feet long.
As you can conclude from the varying lengths, the ways of using each differ .
In the choosing of a weapon to defend ourselves the stick type of weapon (Bo, Jo or Hanbo)
can easily be incorporated into a comprehensive set of techniques that allow us to disarm and
control an assailant ,and if required, inflict pain without running the risk of permanently
injuring or killing him or her.
In addition to all this it is a weapon that can in many circumstances be substituted by similar objects such as a broom handle or walking stick.
