Welcome to the website home page of the Coatbridge Ju jitsu Club, Scotland.

The club was founded in 1990 by Sensei Frank Watson

(Senior Coaching Officer / Coaching Assessor)

assisted by his wife Jacqui ,who is also the club's secretary

and in December 2004 Jacqui attained her position as a FIMA

( Female In Martial Arts ) International Coach -personal profile here.

Sensei Michael McDonald (Senior Club Coach ) joined the club in 1992.

Sensei Selina Woolcott holds the position of Senior Assistant Club Coach

followed by Sensei Joe Hamill as Assistant Club Coach.

Various other Dan grades are currently undergoing Coaching Assessments.

All registered instructors with the club are required to have Personal Indemnity Insurance

and in addition to this they are assessed yearly in accordance with the WJJF requirements.

Licence cover with insurance is also a requirement for all other members

and coaches which is renewed annually.

One further requirement that is met by this club and all other registered clubs within the WJJF is that it carries a full and comprehensive DOJO insurance.

The Club has a number of qualified First Aiders, both male and female.

The Club has a small number of members and offers a friendly atmosphere to train in.

Many of the members have trained and are training in other martial arts styles too

including Karate, Kung Fu, Taekwondo, Aikido, Judo, Thai Boxing

and Kick Boxing bringing a further dimension to the learning at the club.

Kids are most welcome to the Dojo and are taught as part of the main class

in their own part of the hall.

Both Sensei Watson and Sensei McDonald have been security checked under the Child Protection Act by DISCLOSURE SCOTLAND.

Both the classical and the modern aspects of Ju Jitsu are taught in conjunction with the World Ju-Jitsu Federation syllabus programme,which covers from white belt to black belt 5th Dan - applicable to both juniors and senior students

( Senior and Junior students have a seperate syllabus content)

We do padwork training, multiple attackers defense, various weapon defense

and safety awareness principles.

Weapons Training is also offered as part of the class.

All members are required by the club to carry a letter of agreement regarding the safe transport of training weapons to and from the club premises.(see here)

Weapons being taught include Tonfa, Nunchaku, Sai, Kama, Bokken, Bo and Jo

along with a vast range of other weapons in both kata and technique form.

Knife and stick defences are taught as part of the main syllabus.

We hold various in Club events where the junior students have the chance to win various prizes or trophies.

The club is an excellent platform for the art of Ju jitsu , martial arts, self defense

and as a representative of the WJJF.

Please Note:

Although Ju-Jitsu is a Japanese Martial Art

we at Coatbridge Ju-Jitsu Club and the WJJF do not use Japanese terminology.

At Coatbridge Ju-Jitsu Club we 'Do Not' take part in competitions

unlike some other styles of Ju-Jitsu , other than the in club events run for the children,

we do sparring within the class training only.

Our training principles are based on self defence for the individual student.

The syllabus content includes locks, holds, throws, kicks, punches, strangles, chokes, elbows and knees.

Defensive techniques against :- Hair/clothing/body/limb grabs, strangles, chokes, ground defence to mention just a few, as well as weapon defence.

It is suitable for all gender and ages from 6yrs upwards ,

including individuals who may have a disability.

Every student is treated as an individual and taught according to their ability and age.
